Hair graft calculator
This hair graft calculator turns the zones you mark, or your Norwood or Ludwig stage, into an estimated graft range and a price range per country. For example, 3,000 grafts would cost around $2,100 to $6,000 in Turkey. It is an estimate to plan with, and a surgeon confirms the real number after examining you.
This is an estimate, not medical advice. A surgeon confirms the graft count and plan after an examination.
- 3,000 grafts in Turkey
- $2,100 to $6,000
- 3,000 grafts in the UK
- $9,000 to $22,500
- Typical session
- 1,500 to 4,000 grafts
How the estimate works
From your hair loss zones to a graft range
The calculator follows the same logic a surgeon uses at a first look, just without seeing your scalp up close.
-
01
You mark the zones
The scalp is split into the hairline, the front third, the mid scalp and the crown. Each zone you mark adds its own graft range.
-
02
Each zone has an area
Every zone covers a typical surface in square centimetres. A wide crown or a deep temple recession counts for more than a small gap at the front.
-
03
Density is applied
Surgeons usually plan around 30 to 50 grafts per square centimetre in the recipient area, with the hairline placed densest because it frames the face.
-
04
Prices come from grafts
The graft range is multiplied by the typical price per graft in each country, which gives you a price range rather than a single figure.
Graft ranges commonly cited by stage
These are the broad ranges you see in clinic consultations for male pattern loss on the Norwood scale. Your own number can sit outside them.
| Norwood stage | Typical pattern | Grafts commonly planned |
|---|---|---|
| Norwood 2 | Slight recession at the temples | 500 to 1,500 |
| Norwood 3 | Deeper temple recession | 1,500 to 2,500 |
| Norwood 3 vertex | Recession plus thinning at the crown | 2,000 to 3,000 |
| Norwood 4 | Larger frontal loss and crown thinning | 2,500 to 3,500 |
| Norwood 5 | Front and crown close to joining | 3,000 to 4,500 |
| Norwood 6 and 7 | Wide loss across the top | 4,000 or more, often over two sessions |
For women, the Ludwig scale describes diffuse thinning over the top. Those cases are planned zone by zone, see female hair transplant.
What different graft counts cost
Estimated prices for common graft counts, worked out from the typical price per graft in each country.

| 1,500 | $1,050 to $3,000 | $2,250 to $5,250 | $4,500 to $11,250 | $6,000 to $18,000 |
| 2,500 | $1,750 to $5,000 | $3,750 to $8,750 | $7,500 to $18,750 | $10,000 to $30,000 |
| 3,500 | $2,450 to $7,000 | $5,250 to $12,250 | $10,500 to $26,250 | $14,000 to $42,000 |
| 4,500 | $3,150 to $9,000 | $6,750 to $15,750 | $13,500 to $33,750 | $18,000 to $54,000 |

Why a surgeon has to confirm the number
A calculator cannot see your donor area. The back and sides of your scalp hold a limited supply of follicles, and a surgeon measures their density and hair calibre before deciding how many can be moved safely.
Thick or curly hair covers more with fewer grafts, fine hair needs more. Age and family history change the plan too, because a good surgeon leaves donor reserve for future loss. Read how many grafts you need for the full picture.
- Donor density and the total safe supply
- Hair calibre, curl and the contrast between hair and skin colour
- Whether loss is still progressing
- The look you want, from natural coverage to a dense front
Getting a more useful estimate
Small things make the range you see closer to what a clinic later proposes.
- Mark zones in good light with dry hair, looking from above and from the front
- Include thinning areas, not only fully bald ones
- Choose the stage that matches today, not the one you fear
- Note any earlier transplant, as scarred areas plan differently
- Keep your result and compare it with every written offer
What to do with your estimate
The range is a starting point for a better conversation with clinics.
Check offers against it
An offer far above or below your range is worth a question. Ask the clinic to explain how they reached their number.
Compare countries on the same count
Using one graft count makes price comparisons fair. See hair graft cost for price per graft by country.
Request written offers
Share your estimate and photos with clinics you choose, and let a surgeon confirm the plan in writing.
Questions
Frequently asked questions
How accurate is a hair graft calculator?
It gives a planning range, not a diagnosis. It cannot see your donor density, hair calibre or how your loss will progress. Treat the result as a guide and expect a surgeon to adjust it after an examination.
How many grafts do I need for a Norwood 3?
Clinics commonly plan around 1,500 to 2,500 grafts for a Norwood 3, more if the crown is also thinning. The exact count depends on how far the temples have receded and on your donor area.
How much do 3,000 grafts cost?
Around $2,100 to $6,000 in Turkey, $4,500 to $10,500 in Poland and $9,000 to $22,500 in the UK, based on typical prices per graft. Packages and surgeon fees can move the final figure.
What is the maximum number of grafts in one session?
Most clinics plan 1,500 to 4,000 grafts in a session, sometimes more over two days. The safe limit comes from your donor area, and large cases are often split into two sessions months apart.
Do I need to sign up to use the calculator?
No. You can mark your zones and see the graft and price range without an account. You only sign up when you want clinics to review your case and send you written offers.
