Hairline transplant
A hairline transplant rebuilds a receding or high front hairline with grafts taken from the back of your scalp. Most hairlines need around 1,000 to 2,000 grafts, depending on how far the line moves and how dense it should look. In Turkey, 1,500 grafts come to about $1,050 to $3,000.
Hairline design, front view
The surgeon draws the new hairline first. Single hair grafts form a soft front edge, denser grafts fill in behind it.

What makes a hairline look natural
The front few centimetres are what people see first. These are the details surgeons work on.
Height and age
A mature hairline sits slightly higher than a teenage one. Placing it too low can look odd later as surrounding hair thins.
Irregular edge
Natural hairlines are not straight. Surgeons create a soft, uneven transition zone instead of a ruler line.
Single hair grafts at the front
The first rows use one hair units, with two and three hair units behind them for density.
Angle and direction
Front hairs grow forward at a low angle. Wrong angles make hair stick up and look transplanted.
Temple points
Rebuilding the temples frames the face. It is delicate work and not every plan needs it.
Hairline graft counts and estimated cost
Rough ranges for common hairline jobs. A surgeon confirms the real number after measuring your scalp and donor area.
| Hairline job | Typical grafts | Estimate in Turkey | Estimate in the UK |
|---|---|---|---|
| Temple corners only | 500 to 1,000 | $550 to $1,600 | $2,400 to $6,000 |
| Hairline refinement | 800 to 1,500 | $850 to $2,400 | $3,600 to $9,000 |
| Full hairline rebuild | 1,500 to 2,000 | $1,250 to $3,600 | $5,400 to $13,500 |
| Hairline with front third | 2,000 to 3,000 | $1,750 to $5,000 | $7,500 to $18,750 |

Who is a good candidate
Hairline work suits people whose recession has slowed and whose donor area is strong. If you are young and loss is still moving, a surgeon may suggest medication first and a conservative line, so the result still fits in ten or twenty years.
Women with a naturally high forehead can also have the hairline lowered with grafts, see female hair transplant. Anyone with an earlier result that looks pluggy may need repair work rather than a new hairline.
- Stable recession at the temples or front
- Dense donor area at the back and sides
- Realistic expectations about height and density
- Willingness to protect native hair behind the new line
Before you agree on a hairline
Hairline design is a conversation. Do not accept a line drawn quickly before you have asked these questions.
- Who designs the hairline, and will I see it drawn before surgery?
- How will this line look if I lose more hair behind it?
- How many single hair grafts go into the front rows?
- Do you plan to rebuild the temples, and why?
- Can I see consented before and after cases of hairline work by the same surgeon?
Healing
How a new hairline grows in
The front is visible every day, so it helps to know what to expect.
-
01
First two weeks
Small scabs form and fall away with gentle washing. Some swelling of the forehead is common in the first days.
-
02
Weeks three to eight
Transplanted hairs usually shed. The front can look like it did before surgery, which is normal.
-
03
Months three to six
Fine new hairs appear and slowly thicken.
-
04
Months nine to twelve
Most of the final density and texture shows. Hairlines often mature faster than the crown.

Questions
Frequently asked questions
How many grafts does a hairline transplant need?
Most hairlines need 1,000 to 2,000 grafts. Temple corners alone can take as few as 500, while a hairline with the front third of the scalp can need 2,500 or more. A surgeon confirms the number after an examination.
How much does a hairline transplant cost?
For around 1,500 grafts, estimates run at $1,050 to $3,000 in Turkey and $4,500 to $11,250 in the UK. Some clinics price a hairline as a package or with a minimum fee. Ask for the total in writing.
Will a transplanted hairline look natural?
It can, when the surgeon uses single hair grafts at the front, an irregular edge and correct angles. Results vary, so a personal examination and realistic design matter more than any promise.
Can I lower my hairline with a transplant?
Yes, within limits set by your forehead shape, age and donor supply. Surgeons usually avoid very low lines in men because future loss could leave the line isolated. A conservative line ages better.
When can I style my hair normally again?
Most people wash normally after about two weeks. Gentle styling is usually fine after a month, but ask your surgeon before using heat, dye or tight hats. Every clinic gives its own aftercare schedule.
