Hair graft cost and price per graft by country
Hair graft cost is the price a clinic charges for each follicular unit it moves. It runs at $0.70 to $2 in Turkey, $1.50 to $3.50 in Poland, $3 to $7.50 in the UK and $4 to $12 in the USA. Multiply by your graft count to compare a per graft offer with a fixed package, or see the most common session size priced on hair transplant 3000 grafts cost.
This is an estimate, not medical advice. A surgeon confirms the graft count and plan after an examination.

What one graft actually is
A graft is a follicular unit, the natural group of one to four hairs that grows from the same spot on your scalp. Clinics count grafts, not hairs, so 2,500 grafts usually means somewhere between 5,000 and 8,000 hairs.
That matters when you compare offers. A clinic that quotes hairs instead of grafts can sound generous while moving fewer units. Always ask for the number of follicular units in writing.
- Single hair grafts go to the front of the hairline
- Two and three hair grafts build density behind it
- Three and four hair grafts are used in the mid scalp and crown
- The mix depends on your donor area, not on the price list

Price per graft for US patients once travel is added
A low price per graft abroad is only half the bill for an American patient. This is what 2,500 grafts cost at the typical rate in each country, and what you usually add to get there and back.
| Country | Price per graft | 2,500 grafts | What to add from the US |
|---|---|---|---|
| USA | $4 to $12 | $10,000 to $30,000 | Nothing, in person follow up at the clinic |
| Mexico | $1.50 to $3.50 | $3,750 to $8,750 | A short flight or a drive to the border, often one or two hotel nights |
| Turkey | $0.70 to $2 | $1,750 to $5,000 | Round trip flights, roughly 700 to 1,400 USD, hotel and transfers usually in the package |
| Hungary | $1.50 to $3.20 | $3,750 to $8,000 | Transatlantic flights and three or four nights in Budapest |

Per graft pricing or a fixed package
Both models are common, and neither is better by default. Each one has a trap worth knowing.
Per graft pricing
You pay for what is moved, which is transparent. The risk is a final count higher than planned. Ask for a written maximum before surgery.
Fixed package
One price for the session, often with hotel and transfers. The risk is a package sold as unlimited grafts, which can tempt a clinic to overharvest your donor area.
Tiered price
Some clinics lower the price per graft as the count rises. Useful for large sessions, but check that the plan is driven by your needs and not by the next tier.
Minimum fee
Small sessions, such as a hairline touch up, often carry a minimum charge because setup time is the same as for a bigger session.

Work out your number
How to estimate your own graft cost
You can get a useful range in a few minutes, as long as you remember that a surgeon sets the final plan.
-
01
Mark your thinning zones
Use the graft calculator to select the hairline, temples, mid scalp or crown, or your Norwood stage.
-
02
Read the graft range
You get a low and a high estimate. The low end suits a lighter density, the high end a fuller one.
-
03
Multiply by the local price
Apply the price per graft for the countries you are considering, or read the ready estimates on the hair transplant cost page.
-
04
Check against written offers
Send your estimate and photos to clinics and compare the count each surgeon proposes. Large gaps between offers are worth asking about.
Questions to ask before you accept a price per graft
Two offers with the same price per graft can end in very different bills. These answers, in writing, make them comparable.
- Is the graft count in the offer a maximum, a minimum or an estimate, and what does each extra graft cost?
- How is the final count recorded on the day, and do I get the number in my discharge papers?
- Does the price cover the consultation, PRP, medication, the first wash and follow up visits?
- Who extracts and who implants the grafts, the surgeon or a technician team?
- What deposit do you take, and is it refundable if the surgeon changes the plan after examining me?
- If I need a second session, is it priced at the same rate per graft?

Questions
Frequently asked questions
How much does one hair graft cost?
Price per graft runs at $0.70 to $2 in Turkey, $1.50 to $3.20 in Hungary, $3 to $7.50 in the UK and $4 to $12 in the USA. Package clinics may not quote a per graft price at all.
How many hairs are in one graft?
A graft is a follicular unit with one to four hairs, usually two or three on average. That is why a session of 2,500 grafts can move several thousand hairs. Always compare offers by graft count.
How much do 3,000 grafts cost?
Based on price per graft, 3,000 grafts come to about $2,100 to $6,000 in Turkey, $9,000 to $22,500 in the UK and $12,000 to $36,000 in the USA. Packages abroad can be lower. Ask each clinic for the total in writing.
Why do some clinics offer unlimited grafts?
It is a sales format. Your donor area has a limited supply, and a responsible surgeon plans the number you need while keeping reserves for later. Treat unlimited offers with caution.
Why are hair grafts so expensive in the USA?
US clinics pay higher wages, rent and malpractice insurance, and many surgeons treat one patient a day, so the price per graft lands at $4 to $12. You are also paying for in person consultations and follow up visits, which abroad usually happen by photo.
How much do 2000 grafts cost?
At typical rates, 2,000 grafts come to about $1,400 to $4,000 in Turkey, $3,000 to $7,000 in Mexico and $8,000 to $24,000 in the USA. The 2000 grafts cost page shows what that session usually covers and when it is not enough.
Is it cheaper to pay per graft or for a package?
For small sessions per graft pricing is usually cheaper, and for large sessions abroad a fixed package often wins because the price is capped. Compare the total for your own graft range, plus travel, rather than the headline number.
Can I finance a hair transplant priced per graft?
Yes. Most US clinics accept medical credit or in house payment plans, and the plan simply covers the final total. Compare the interest against a lower quote abroad first, as explained in our hair transplant financing guide.
Is a lower graft price a sign of lower quality?
Not on its own. Country costs explain much of the gap. What matters more is who extracts and implants the grafts and how carefully they are handled between steps. Ask each clinic directly.
