Sapphire FUE hair transplant

A sapphire FUE hair transplant is classic FUE in which the recipient channels are opened with sapphire tipped blades instead of steel. Extraction and implantation stay the same. It is widely offered in Turkey, where a typical FUE package costs $1,800 to $5,000, and clinics often include sapphire blades in that price or add a small surcharge.

What sapphire blades change, and what they do not

Sapphire blades are very hard and can be made with a smooth, sharp V shaped tip. Surgeons who use them say the channels are cleaner and can be made smaller and closer together, which helps with density and may mean less trauma to the skin.

The blade does not change extraction, graft survival handling or the skill of the person placing grafts. A well run steel blade session can look just as good. Treat sapphire as one detail of the plan, not the reason to choose a clinic.

  • Same donor harvesting as classic FUE
  • Channels can be opened smaller and closer together
  • Healing of the recipient area may be a little quicker
  • No effect on how many grafts your donor area can give

Sapphire FUE next to the other options

Clinic price lists often show three versions side by side. Here is what each one means in practice.

Classic FUE with steel blades

The original method. Channels are opened with steel slits or needles. Still used by many leading surgeons.

Sapphire FUE

Same as classic FUE, with sapphire blades for the channels. Common in Turkish packages.

DHI

No separate channels. Grafts go in with an implanter pen. See DHI hair transplant for details.

Mixed approach

Some clinics use DHI on the hairline and sapphire FUE behind it, which combines precision at the front with speed for larger areas.

On the day

Where the sapphire blade comes in

A sapphire FUE day follows the standard FUE sequence. Only one step uses the special blade.

  1. 01

    Design and local anaesthesia

The surgeon marks the hairline and areas to fill, then numbs donor and recipient zones.

  2. 02

    Extraction

Grafts are taken one by one with a 0.7 to 1.0 mm punch and stored chilled.

  3. 03

    Channel opening with sapphire

Recipient sites are made with sapphire blades. Angle, direction and spacing decide how natural the result looks.

  4. 04

    Implantation

Grafts are placed into the channels with forceps, singles at the front and larger units behind.

Questions that matter more than the blade

Ask these before you compare sapphire offers on price.

  • Who opens the channels, the surgeon or a technician?
  • Is sapphire included in the package or charged extra?
  • How many grafts do you plan, and how did you reach that number?
  • How many patients does the team treat on my surgery day?
  • What aftercare and follow up are included?

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Is sapphire FUE better than regular FUE?

It can allow smaller, tighter channels and slightly faster healing of the recipient area. It does not replace surgical skill, which decides most of the result. A good steel blade session can match it.

How much does sapphire FUE cost in Turkey?

Typical FUE packages in Turkey cost $1,800 to $5,000, and in Istanbul $1,800 to $5,000. Many clinics include sapphire blades in that price, others add a modest surcharge. Check the offer wording carefully.

Does sapphire FUE leave less scarring?

Donor scarring is the same as classic FUE, because extraction does not change. The recipient area may show less redness early on, though this varies from person to person. Ask your surgeon what to expect.

Is sapphire FUE the same as DHI?

No. Sapphire FUE opens channels with a sapphire blade before placing grafts. DHI places grafts with an implanter pen that makes the site at the same time. Some clinics combine both methods in one session.

How long until I see results?

The timeline matches any FUE session. New growth usually starts around month three or four, with most of the result visible between months nine and twelve. The crown can take up to 18 months to mature.
